Eight things to know about me

These approaches to work have been shaped by the four years I’ve spent as a creative consultant for such companies as Michael Kors, J. Crew and Madewell, as well as the 15 years spent working onstaff in publishing (10 years as an award-winning deputy editor at Glamour, five years as a reporter and editor at WWD), and five years as a freelance writer (for ElleThe New York TimesInStyleHarper’s BazaarPaper, Versace, Chanel, Carolina Herrera, MaxMara, Anna Sui, among others).

  1. No-idea-is-stupid collaboration is essential to new thinking. There’s nothing better than getting a bunch of creative thinkers in a room together and hashing through whatever bubbles up.
  2. That being said, I am fearless about making decisions when they need to be made to move the process and the project along.
  3. Enthusiasm is contagious. It’s entirely acceptable to high-five after solving a tough-nut problem.
  4. First instincts and gut reactions are worth respecting.
  5. Seeing an idea come together for the first time on paper, online, on canvas, on whatever—with all components in place—will lead to other creative ideas. They might be better than the original idea. Or it might be a good time to go with #4.
  6. A work day should never go by without a good laugh. Or seven. Or 27.
  7. Not to be underestimated: Listening.
  8. I am honest and direct. That approach doesn’t work for some people. That’s OK. I look forward to working with those who share my attitude.
